hi guys . My first post here :p

so i wana buy a pc thats good with bf3 and can play on ultra with about 40 Fps.
I wil be buying this PC as a whole from one company since us in South Africa do stuf a litle old fasioned , so i cannot buy the pc online. Pc must work well for 4 years min. Must have some room to upgrade in the future.

thinking bout :

intel i3 2100 @ 3.1 Ghz prosessor
Gigabyte GA-H67MA-USB3-B3 motherboard
4 gig DDR3 RAM (with win 32 so its actualy 3 GB)
Inno 550Ti 1024 mb graphics
700 watt power supply

this falls into my price budget of R 7500 (1000$)

dono if an i3 will hold my card back, if so im willing to go for an i5.

I have a 550ti now i can't get decent consistent high FPS on ultra. I can on High...... It still looks dam good :D

Get the I5 though if you can it will last you longer. Also for a 4 year upgrade cycle I'd pip for at least 8GB RAM (so the 64 bit windows). If i had to choose between I5 though or the 64 bit win and more RAM, I'd take the RAM and Windows with the i3 and maybe toss in a better CPU in 2 years time.

1. Get 64 bit Windows. There is no reason not to.

2. Get more than 4GB of memory, preferably 8GB. You can hit 4GB pretty easily on a modern OS while multitasking, especially if you want to launch games with your browser still running on another monitor. 8GB will be more than enough.

3. Get a better video card. If you're looking for ultra settings in modern games, you need better than a low-mid range budget card. Check Tom's Best GPU For the Money article for recommendations.

4. 700 watts is excessive unless you're going to run SLI or Crossfire. A good 550W supply is adequate for this kind of system.

if you want a pc that'll last 4 years you absolutely have to go for i5 2500k since i3 is dual core which cannot be overclocked

also 8gb of ram and gtx560ti (overclocked w/ better cooling, i.e. msi gtx560ti twin frozr)

edit: and get ~500w corsair/xfx/antec psu

As he plans for future upgrades I'd say more like a solid motherboard and plenty of RAM (while its cheap). The i3 may not last 4 years but as long as the socket stays current he could throw in an Ivy just as Haswell comes out.

I'll defer to you on that as i rock 6 cores so dont know. I still think he needs to up that RAM though rather than want it to last 4 years then decide he needs a RAM upgrade after DDR4 comes out and find it suddenly costs 3 times more for his DDR3, so end up in that bubble people have recentley of wanting to up their RAM (DDR2) and finding it's alot more than they thought.

Maybe stick with the 550ti, up the RAM and CPU and earmark the GPU as his "future upgrade". Or wait a short bit for Nvidia to release Keppler and see if he can then snag a 560ti at a lowered price.

yeah, i agree on ram, like i said in my 1st post, 8gb is pretty much a must nowadays, 64bit os hits 4gb with ease once you have 4-5 tabs in chrome, some music and couple of messengers rolling while playing a game

i made a mistake of buying only 4gb almost 2 years ago, needless to say i ordered extra kit in less than 2 months, along with an ssd since i was disappointed with how raid0 makes almost no difference compared to a single hdd while booting windows/loading games
