Need new CPU, need recommendations!

My friend is trying to play GW2, but he gets incredibly low FPS ranging from 5-20 on the lowest settings. He has a HD 4850 which should be able to play it on at least medium settings around 30 FPS or so I heard.

Anyways, I assumed it was his CPU that was bottlenecking the gameplay so I need some recommendations for a new buy.

Current specs:
Motherboard: Intel Atwood D945PAW
CPU Sockets/Slots: LGA 775
CPU: Dual Core Intel Pentium D920, ~2.80Ghz
Video Card: HD 4850
RAM: 4GB (But he has a Windows 7 32-bit Professional, so it shows at 3.3GB)

I am hoping the motherboard doesn't need to be replaced as well...

Also, his budget is ~$100.

Really, youd only be throwing good money after bad.

If you want to upgrade, save up and get a current intel mobo and CPU.

yes he'll need a new motherbd, processor, and ram. A newer video card certainly would be on my list of recommendations.

Here's the supported CPU's list for that board http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d945paw/sb/CS-026940.htm but none of them above what he already has is worth the upgrade.

So pretty much he's nearly capped out on that motherboard... woo boy, that sucks cuz he bought a lot of computer games lol

Well spending money on upgrading a PC is never really a waste - chances are there will be plenty of games that he'll end up wanting to play in the future. So though it would currently seems hes only doing it to play GW2, Im sure he'd end up using it for something else down the line.
