I am building my first computer and I was just wondering if the case and the psu I've chosen are compatible, and if you guys have any suggestions on if I should change them.

Case

PSU

Thanks for your help,
Ragnarok

I would say that the case is pretty nice, but I would not skimp on a psu if you absolutely don't have too.

These are a few that I looked at before settling on the Enermax liberty, because of the modular cables higher effiiency.

You don't have to worry about matching the case and PSU usally. The problems come from trying to match the Motherboard and PSU. 20 or 24 pin ATX connector is the biggie. Make sure the PSU also has SATA and PCIe plugs, or use adaptors. I'd double check Aspire for build quality based on the top two reviews...

I wouldnt buy Aspire period.

Aspire is like the Kia of PSU's and PC cases.

they are cheap but blow in 1 month.

stick with Antec.

Antec Sonata II. 100 dollars comes with a 450w smartpower. beats anything Aspire has.

I think Pengwin and I have answered this today in a different thread already....

The Antec Sonata II is on sale for $85 at newegg... better than the aspire by 300% even if it's lower power it's reliable.

I understand the need to mod and get a cool looking case and lots of lights and cool colors but you can add those later. If you need a window then get a window mod kit and add some cold cathodes.

If you want some good windowed cases then either of the bottom two are good.

Both around the same price as the aspire.

For PSU I'd suggest.

BUT that Antec Sonata II is still the best value and the one I'd recommend.

I agree wholeheartedly about avoiding Aspire. Look around on jonnyguru.com for his heirarchy of PSUs and a bunch of well-executed tests.

Pengwin is one of many Antec supporters. I used to think they were top tier, then I got burned twice, once badly. Before you buy Antec, check out this new mushkin 550 watt unit. It looks to be a bargain.

Thanks for all of the advice on cases/psus. I really like the case even though some of the feed back it has received is not very flattering. On the psu issue, I will look it antec power supplies.

Some one asked what the other components of my pc will be and here is a list.

MoBo

GPU

CPU

Memory

HDD

Combo Drive

My comp will be used for the usual college agenda...games,movies,burning dvds,games,cds....a little term paper here and there, a few charts and graphs and maybe putting together slideshows now and then for my business classes.

Please help me/comment if anything is not compatible or is just a stupid P.O.S that I shouldn't get.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Peace,
Ragnarok

I really like the case I chose. It does have good reviews and seems reliable. In your guys opinion is it a crappy case? And do the reset of my parts, besides the psu, look ok? Please comment on them if you have time.

Thanks for all the help so far, keep it coming!

That Aspire case has too much plastic on it. Looks like a toy for little kids, looks cartoony. The Centurion is a good case and the BFG psu is the best. I know the PSU is about twice more expensive than that Aspire but with it's lifetime warranty you can't beat it.

What about Corsair or OCZ RAM??? As far as the GPU goes, if you're into games, then consider a 7900GT. Or for the money, why not upgrade to the 512Mb version of the 7600GT?
