What makes computer turn off and then back on again

ON GOING PROBLEM . I TURN MY COMPUTER ON AND EVERYTHING IS FINE BUT , IT SHUTS ITSELF OFF AND RESTART ITSELF . THIS CAN ACCUR UP TO 3 TO 4 TIMES ADAY . PLEASE HELP / THANK-YOU SO MUCH

first, don't post in all caps it is against the forum rules. Secondly I have seen issues like this resulting from a faulty power supply. What are your system specs?

It could also be non-BSOD BSOD's(i.e. set to automatically restart on error) You should change that setting here are some guides on how to do it in WinXP through Win7

Once you've turned that off, you need to write down the error the bluescreen displays including the stop code which will look like this 0x00000001 possibly involving more than one. Then your issue can be more easily investigated.
