I am currently building my first gaming PC and have a question about my monitor and graphics card. I am in 2 minds about getting a new monitor and need help please.

Ideally I would like to be playing games in full 1080p

I was going to just use my old monitor when I bought my new PC which is Compaq Q2022a Series wide LCD monitor. This monitor best resolution is 1600 x 900 and it has no HDMI output, its of an old pre-built PC.

The graphics card that I have chosen is HIS HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB.

My question is will my graphics card work to its full potential with the monitor that I am currently using?

The PC will primarily be used for gaming, will my monitor hinder my graphics in anyway?

Will I need to get a new monitor, if so any recommendations?

If you can afford it your gaming experience will be greatly enhanced by going with a 1080p monitor.
Can you please tell us what other hardware will be in this in the PC.

With your 1600 x 900 monitor you will end up using more post processing such as AA etc if you want to make things look the best you can.
When I updated my Monitor to 1080p I wished I had done it earlier.

I have a BenQ monitor 22" and 1080p as it fits on my bench. I have no complaints about it and you don't need to but an expensive one either.

Mactronix :)
