Xps 430 video card up grade

I instsalled a ati asus 5450 silent video card in a xps 430 and added a 500W power supply . unstalled the old card . updated the drivers on install . Well the performance numbers droped through the floor . I am a little confused as went from a 256 Mgb card to a 1Gb card. Any thoughts . the 430 is a stock box otherwise.

More about video card grade
  1. What card did you have before? The HD5450 is not a gaming card and performance is not measured by memory size! http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html
  2. 512 Mb radon 3870
  3. HD3870 is a lot stronger card than the HD5450! Look at the chart in the link I posted
  4. Ok reinstalled the old card now shows as a 3600 series. And now i get a message that the ati is catilist is not supported . I did a system restore to a point i created before I installed the 5450 . The card works fine so far. any reason I sould be concerned . I will adding another card 64XX series later on .

64xx is just a little upgrade from 54xx so still a downgrade, you need at minimum HD6670 for on upgrade. I would recommend HD5770 or HD6770 based on the chart in here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html
  6. Thank you for the chart helps. About the ati catalyst error any Ideas. Seem a little odd to me ,
