EBay Core 2 Quad Q9500

Last response: in CPUs

Hello, I just installed a Core 2 Quad Q9500 that I bought on eBay. I had a Core 2 Duo E8400.

I do not think I got the chip I bargained for. In BIOS it shows up as a 4 core chip with HyperThreading. In CPU-Z it shows up as a 2 core chip with 2 threads. According to the Intel spec page it should be 4 cores and 4 threads.

In all of my performance testing, this thing is slower. To me it seems that 1/2 of the CPU is not functioning. Is that possible? Could it be that I need to install a fresh copy of windows to recognize 4 cores? Is there a way to check/flash/turn on all 4 cores?

Bios up to date? Check start -> run -> msconfig -> boot -> advance options -> number of processors

Are 4 cores enabled in the BIOS?

The 4 cores were on in every location (inc. BIOS) except for CPU-Z and start > run > msconfig > boot > advanced options > number of processors.
Thank You Supermuncher, my WEI went from CPU 6.6 to 7.3!

Another question, when I went to msconfig > boot > advanced, under the cores item my window had PCI LOCK checked. What is that and do I have it correct?

83% increase in Passmark CPU testing.

3Dmark 11 = P3545, up from P3365.
