By today's standards, a video card with at least 512MB if memory is desirable, but one with 1GB of memory gives you more options and better performance. I would suggest at least 1GB of video memory.

BTW, this is a very general recommendation. Many factors can go into making a full assessment, but this recommendation is a good rule of thumb.

Good luck and happy gaming!

If the gpu is not powerful enough then no amount of vram will help.

This too, is very true.

The other factors mentioned earlier include the CPU, amount of memory, etc. Basically, the specs for your system are needed to determine the best video card for use.

Depends on the resolution you play at. For 1920 x 1200 or less 1GB of RAM is enough. Your video card must also be powerful enough to play at the resolution you want to play at.

A common misconception is that a video card with more memory will be better, this is not true it depends on the edition and power. To give you an idea of where to start off look for the 2nd digit on nvidia and 3rd digit on radeon. A 570 at 1gb is waaaay better than a 560 at 2gb. Same with a 6970 radeon over a 6850

Actually, it is the second and third for Radeon.
