1st time advice

Hi all,

sorry if this sort of post gets boring but ... im pretty excited about a very long overdue build i am going to undertake so thought i would consult the experts.

basically i have been given an Asus M5A97pro mobo and want to build with some existing kit and get your advice about new purchases. so here goes, this is what i have:

- M5A97pro mobo
- nvidia geforce 8800 gts
- dvd drive
- 500gb hdd ... which i might upgrade
- 350 power supply (i know i need a new one so any advice is greatly appreciated)
- crap fans!
- 2 x 1gb ram
- 3g cpu

what i would like to get is:
- a cheap but effective *quiet* case ... ideally with fans!!!
- most likely, fans
- cheap but effective power supply
- maybe a new dvd drive
- decent sound card

i really want to build a pc for graphics purposes and speed. im gonna install win 7 once complete. the majority of the work i do is for graphic design, and for leisure i watch movies and plan company of heroes.

i guess im not asking for top spec but know you dont need to go "high end" to get good quiet performance. i dont mind hunting down older components so if you think that such-and-such from 2007 would be ideal please do say. any advice would be greatly appreciated ... bearing in mind im fairly skint!

also, im new to this so please dont flame me too soon. sorry for my naivety

System Usage from Most to Least Important: quick!, design work, watching movies (not 3d), surfing net, word processing

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS, th epower supply is only 350w from fsp group so guess i need an upgrade ... maybe

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: any

Country: uk

Parts Preferences: none

Overclocking: Maybe - though i doubt i'll really need it. so probably 'no'

SLI or Crossfire: No - i would upgrade to a single

Monitor Resolution: 1440x900,

Additional Comments: quick and quiet is what im after

In regards to the case im probably gonna go for the Antec Three Hundred Midi. so we can scrap that off the list. recommendations of cheap decent fans with blue LEDs would be helpful too. thanks again

i do need a new cpu ... oh im such a newbie!

so in y quest, can anyone tell me whether any RAM would work on this board? i have 2 exactly the same 1gbs from an old pc - just want to check whether anything will work. cheers

also, will a geforce 8800 gts work with this mobo?
