Hello, I am currently trying to decide between two cards, the gtx 480, or the 560ti. I can get them both for the same price, but I just want to know the benefits and downsides of the cards. I am building a desktop, so parts compatibility is not an issue, but in the future I plan to SLI. Thanks.

In pure FPS situations the difference is very small but other applications have a larger difference.
This ebay seller often has 480's for sale and other cards. Currently he has a GTX 560ti for $185:http://myworld.ebay.com/gfsi/

Here is another benchmark between the two cards:

The only thing about these benchmarks is there were done prior to the 295 driver release which supposedly greatly affected the most recent cards the most. It would be nice to see a benchmark with the new drivers.

As for performance there are thousands of charts and benchmarks out there that you probably want to look at yourself to see which ones best apply to your applications and uses. The 480 should outperform the 560ti in most situations.
Here is a quick look at the difference between the cards:

However the main difference is the 480 is much much louder and runs hotter than the newer 560ti. Not to mention the 480 uses alot more power. And if you plan to use and SLI setup down the road the 480 may be hard to get a hold of.

My one worry is not being able to find another 480 in the future for SLI, as after a long search I have only found one. Power is of no object to me, but heat and sound could be an issue. Is the performance between the two very significant? Theoretically the 480 should be much more powerful, yet in many benchmarks it outperforms the 560ti by about 5%. If the performance is only marginally better, then I would rather go for the 560ti and save on a cheaper power supply.
