Hi guys,

I am installing an intel i5 3750K on an ASUS P877-V motherboard. When i start to put the arm down to hold the processor in, there is some resistance. As i start to push down it starts to feel like i'm almost bending metal. As this is my first build, I want to make sure that its okay before I put the handle all the way down and mess something up.

Remove the CPU, check that there are no signs of damage, put it back in double-checking that registration marks are properly aligned. The CPU should fit fairly snugly within the socket's edges. Once you have confirmed that the CPU is not snagging edges anywhere and is properly seated on the fingers, close the pressure plate again.

You can see by the thickness of the rear-plate and the pressure plate that this metal contraption is intended to apply a fair amount of force. Some resistance is to be expected, just make sure the CPU seats itself freely which is your best indication that it did not snag on anything while dropping in.
