Safest video driver for 8600gt on xp

I have a gigabyte 965P-DS3P MB with 4gig mem, inno3d nvidia 8600gt card and Samsung Synchmaster 2433bw monitor running winXP Pro.
A week back, the screen display update became increasing sluggish, cursor froze and black artifacts randomly appeared on screen plus display started flickering and then forced reboot.
I have tried uninstalling all graphics drivers in conjunction with cab cleaner and Driver Cleaner Pro to obtain clean install but get same result when re-installing!

would appreciate any help you can give me

Odd you should ask. Just a few weeks ago I installed the latest Nvidia 295.xx drivers on a pair of 8600's in an XP Pro rebuild I did. Worked without a problem at 1280x1024 res.

thanks for the advice but on further examination of card found 3 blown electrolytic caps which may explain the screen artifacts and freezes. Bought new updated card and running fine
