DirecTV has an application I have installed on my laptop. When I am connected to my home wifi, I can access the DVR content and watch the recorded shows. It works very well.

Is there a way that I can trick my computer into saying it is connected to the home network(while just connected to another internet connection), that way the application would work and allow me to watch the shows. That way I could do this while i'm away on business at a hotel somewhere.

I know slingbox does what I want it to do, but those things are pricey and I didn't know if anyone could figure out a way to just trick my laptop into saying it's connected to the home network while away. I think that wold work since the application will only work on the home network.

I'm sure some remote connecting and other stuff would be involved. I'd really like to try.

Thanks!
