Are you using a DVI to VGA adapter connected to your computer? If so, you may be using a DVI-D connector on your system that is not able to translate the analog signal that VGA requires.

What make/model of video card are you using? Or, if your are using the integrated video adapter on a system, what make/model of motherboard are you using?

Understood. Your title is misleading then.

Regardless, are you connected to a stand alone video card or to the on-board (integrated video adapter)?

Make sure the video cable is securely screwed into the VGA port properly on the back/bottom of the monitor. Otherwise, time to replace/return the monitor.

First try the monitor with another PC that's working. If it does not work on that one, bad monitor and you can stop looking for other issues.

Thanks for your help it is still doing it on my lap top.
