Why does my pc keep turning off with power still running

pc keeps going into what looks like a standby mode and i have to turn the power off by pressin the button, i know it's not the moniter as it keeps happening when i hooked the pc to my hd t.v and it still does it with a graphics card installed. i could really use some help with this problem.

My first inclination here would be to go into the control panel and check the Power Options. Look for your hibernation settings and either disable hibernation or set it for some silly amount of time like 16 hours. Could be something else but that's where I would start.
