Hi all,

Probably a stupid question but how to you raise your personal level on Halo
2?

I seem to be forever stuck on 1 or 2 although I win loads of medals on Live,
yet loads of other people are in the 20's or higher.

How do I get a higher rating??

Thanx in advance!!

You need to play (and do reasonably well in) public matches to advance in
rank. Playing custom games hosted by someone doesn't increase your rank.

You're not playing people on public lists if you're at level 2 and your
opponents are at level 20 or higher.

Medals are meaningless; only points gained on public games matter for
your rank.

If you're dropping all the time, you're killing your points.

As I recall, I gained a level every couple of games after the reset (for
the first few levels). It shouldn't take very long to go up levels (note
that I'm not very good; in a couple hundred matches, I've never come in
first in a game of slayer, but my rank keeps going up, meaning I keep
getting matchmade against higher and higher players, meaning I keep not
winning, and so on...).

www.bungie.com tells you exactly how it works, it is pretty involved so I
will not try to explain it here. In short it depends on where you finish in
the game and how much they were ranked in the game. If you are a 2 and beat
a 6, 5, 4, and maybe lose to a 8 and a 3 you will most likely move up a
rank. It is always good to be in a game with higher rated players, it gives
you a good chance of taking out someone higher rated than you. My goal is to
never fall below 5th.
