Asrock z68 extreme3 gen3 ($120)
Intel i5-2500k ($170)
500 watt psu OCZ modxstream ($65)
Western Digital 500gb 7200 rpm 64 MB cache ($100)
Radeon 6870 ($160)
rosewill black challenger black gaming atx mid tower ($50)
Lite-on DVD burner ($18)
8gb ram ($38)

This all comes out to about $750, is this a good PC for this price? Would it run most games on medium or high?

what kind of ram are you buying 38 for 8gb sounds to me like it might be junk gskill and corsair and kingston are good memory there is a few other brands that are also good Crucial Ballistix,Patriot Viper Xtreme,Mushkin redline try to get memory made by one of them

Seems a pretty good build. PSU should be fine, seeing as how Toms overclocked a HD6870 on a Earthwatts 380D.

@bigcyco1, that's the usual price for 8gigs of value RAM frm all major manufacturers, including the likes of Corsair, Crucial, G.skill and Kingston.

$38 (39) is about right for some 2x4gb 1333MHz Gskill ram:

Get a better psu. Maybe a better brand if you want to be sure...

I apologize i forgot to answer your questions yes it's a decent build and yes it will run most if not all games on medium settings :)

The system will run any game on at least medium settings. However, you might want to replace the graphics card in a year or so.

It would be cheaper, and give you much better game performance, to drop down to an i3-2100 , and put the money towards a 7850. That way, if you do decide you want more processing power in a year or so, you'll only be replacing a $90 part instead of a $160 part.

[edit] Of course you could buy a 2nd 6870 and xfire them down the road, but I tend to avoid 2 card setups in most cases because of microstuttering.
