So I was trying to reinstall Avast the other day and suddenly I got a BSOD - now I get a BOSD (only appears for less than a second - so can't read) during the windows logo screen every time I boot.

I tried booting from a different HDD with an older W7 install in (but I don't know if it just didn't want to boot from it, decided to try to boot off the SSD W7 install and BSOD'd from that).

Specs:
MSI P67A-GD65
i5 2500K
6950 2GB
X-fi Soundcard
8GB of DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium

Hard Drives are:
SSD - 128GB OCZ Agility 3 - Main W7 install
HDD - 500GB Old W7 install
3 other HDDs with just Data on (music, films etc)

Boot from the install dvd and use the repair option is my best guess.
If that won't help, re-install W7 completely.

Remove the old W7 prior to this as the install dvd might try to repair the wrong disc.

Can I reinstall windows in such a way that it won't touch the non-windows files on the SSD.

Alternatively what is the easiest way of getting some files from the SSD before a full reinstall (e.g. skyrim saves, firefox settings etc.)

Weirdly it's started working again. I'll run a full virus scan, then memtest overnight.

Anything else to check?

The boot order seemed off though - I wonder if it was booting from the old windows install?
