Subject says it all.
I buy most of my games at Fry's, mainly because they have a habit of
marking down new releases by 20-25%. That's a commitment to the
customer that I can really applaud, because they're certainly taking a
loss by doing that.
If they don't have it, next is EBGames.com preowned. It's a ripoff, of
course, because those are all games that were traded in for less than
half of retail cost, but I like the fact that they don't sticker up
their games like the in-store copies. They tend to be in good shape, too.
Last resort is Amazon/Ebay, which is cheaper but much more of a pain in
the ass, really got to be careful when buying OR selling on those sites.

Be careful on Amazon? Surely you jest sir. Safest place on the web to
shop. Even Marketplace. If you bought something off a vendor and it
wasn't to your liking (not as advertised), and the vendor tried to screw
you, Amazon plays the escrow role. They'd give you a full refund and you
could keep the merchandise!

I know - I've had to do that once because I "bought" Advent Rising on
the marketplace and it never got shipped to me. I got my refund, so
Amazon is clearly a good system, but I'd rather have the certainty that
I will get the game within a reasonable span of time.

I've had more than one conversation with Amazon support people who have
been adamant that their associate vendors know they must have an item in
stock when they sell it. Oddly, though, those same vendors claim they
know no such thing.
Also, there have been a surprising number of errors in ordering from
them or their vendors. It's entirely been mitigated by them resolving
it in my favor, but still, an error rate of about 15% is alarming.

i've bought from all these venues and had success with all of them.
occasionally, i've been sniped on eBay, but only because i wasn't
paying attention. the best place i've found to purchase games, though,
is ToysRUs. i can't count the number of times i've walked in randomly
and they have had a "Buy-2-Games-Get-1-Free," "Green Tag" sale, or even
just a better price on a unique game than any other retailer. Best Buy
is my second choice. same thing, they often have great specials plus
they offer the Gamer's Gift Card, which, if used correctly, will get
you $5 off any game any time.
as for the gaming chain stores like EB or Gamestop, their time is
limited for so many reasons. of the last three times i've randomly
walked in there to check out used game prices, i've walked out in
disgust. for example, Tony Hawk's THUG2 is now on the shelf at ToysRUs
for $19.95, while it's still selling at Gamestop for $25 bucks used.
USED!!
i should also mention, that right now ToysRUs is having one of their
Green Tag sales where marked items are 30% off the tag price. can't
beat that with a stick! ;o)

I've bought from marketplace a few times.Had a couple of mishaps but in
that respect, its just like shopping at Ebay, without the blanket.

Games go out of print. Recently, Riviera for GBA was in stock for all
of two weeks before selling out, and apparently they're not getting any
more, because they restocked a bunch of recent Atlus games which had
sold out but not Riviera.

Same with the Best Buy gift card that makes every game $5 cheaper.
