Right now i'm rocking the Sapphire 6870 1gb and i was wondering if i should get the flew 6870 for cross fire cus it comes with a crossfire cable. my motherboard is an asrock extreme 3 gen3. Or should i just get one of the 7870s when they come out later this month. i'm debating this right now just because of the cost of the 7870's from what i'm seeing they could be a bit out of my budget. Just wondering if the upgrade would be worth it.

I'm really not sure demon how the new cards will stack up in CrossFire. To be honest, there hasn't been a ton of improvement with Crossfire/SLI technology recently, but as far as i understand, the 6870 and 6850 had particular problems with microstuttering that were not indicative of the problems of any other cards in this configuration. :( I did find http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BeKb9M5zV0 which shows some benchmark charts, but no indication of whether microstuttering is an issue. Both the 7870 and 7850 seem to perform better as single cards than a single GTX 580, which should bury any games available right now.

I personally had a 6850 CF setup running 8x/8x and never noticed any micro stuttering. I only got rid of the cards because I don't game as much anymore and it made too much noise for my taste. The performance was great though.
