Enabling disabled features

Just wondering what cards if any you can do this with. Seems a lot of cards out there are castrated, actually same goes for CPU's these days like i7s and i5s. I know this was possible in the past on certain units. I'm trying to factor this into my buying decision, thanks

only GPU's that can do that are the reference 6950's with a bios update to a 6970. you probably wont find compatible units anymore though. a couple of AMD cpus can have extra cores unlocked- this is only done through a mobo that supports the unlock feature.
