HD 6850 overheating?

I've been having some issues lately with lag in games, so I decided to stress test my HD 6850 with FurMark. After only a few short minutes, the video card reached 100c. I don't understand how my card could be overheating though. The fan on the card works and my case has 5 120mm fans in it.

After that, I decided to test out a game while monitoring the temps. It managed to get to 77-84C but the GPU was only at 40 percent. Has my video card gone bad or are these temps normal or what?

What are your other specs? That sounds like something else, probably the CPU, is bottlenecking the system so the card can't run all out. Also, the case may not be getting the parts the airflow they need.
Try using MSI Afterburner to check out your fan speeds.

Does the fan speed ramp up with the increase temp? Try using catalyst control center or msi afterburner to manually increase the fan speed. If it never goes above 20%, which is the basic idle speed, I can see it reaching high temps with furmark. I had a 6970 that would run at about 82 degrees while gaming with the gpu at 95% or higher and it would hit 90 while running msi kombuster. Haven't tried it with furmark but you can expect higher temps in a stress test for sure.

assuming u have done:
#1. clean and place the heat sink with arctic paste.
#2. adjust fan speed using TriXX Utility. (eg. abt 35% at idle & 85% at full load)
#3. keep room dry and cool.

Do:
#1. Replace if under Warranty.
#2. Install an aftermarket cooler.

well, to inform u: i have an i3 2100 with sapphire 6770, both at idle show almost same temps.(45c).
While gaming(say BF3), cpu raises to 58c & gpu to 64c. My room temp is 25c-28c (isn't it hot). Thanks its very less humid.
