Is this PSU good because of the 12v1/v2 ratings?

Well here's the picture an ebay shop is using to advertise it, ignore the stupid fonts and look at the spec window thing



it's
+12V1 @ 28A and
+12V2 @ 28A
does this really mean it outputs 56A (672w?)

All the other cheap PSU's are like a single 12V @ 15-34A, obviously a nice high end one would be like 45A or something right?

So yeah I'm a little confused about this hole 12v1/v2 thing and what it means


I'm looking to upgrade my system with some expensive hard ware but I'm on a TIGHT budget, I found a nice ASUS 6850 for like £60 used-like new but I don't want to put it in my system because my current PSU is a single 12V @ 34A and the seller recommended a minimum of 40A :S


So yeah, really I'm looking for general PSU advice here, any help?

No it's another Ace power, X power, Artic power piece of crap

Looking to upgrade with expensive hardware on a tight budget is kinda silly to begin with, looking to do it by saving money with a garbage power supply is , well..........

Ok first you can't just add up the amps of the two rails to get the wattage.

12v1 and v2 are simply "rails" of 12volt power. On a multi rail system you have be careful not to overload one rail too much so I would say you should buy a single rail PSU.

That PSU is ok but I would recommend getting something like a corsair tx650 because it has a single rail.

Also even a Seasonic S12II 520watt PSU will power the 6850 as it has 40amps on the 12v rail and is very reliable.I've been using one for like 3 years now and it runs my PII 970 with a gtx 560

Cheap power supplies suck, can't make it any more clear
Kinda depends on what you think of as a lot, but you don't have to spend alot to get a decent psu
A 6850 doesn't require you to have a 40a psu
What 34a psu do you currently have ?

A shitty Alpine 600w, I bought it without knowing anything about PSU's but I think I got lucky as it seems to be one of the better cheap ones, like one that wont kill my system straight away, but rather in a few months.

All I need to power is 2HDD's, and soon only 1 HDD and 1SSD
a 6850
core2duo e4700 and soon an AMD 651k or 631
2 memory slots, ddr2 and soon ddr3(4GB)
1 case fan

there's a 1 year old Antec earthwatts EA-500D for like £20 on ebay right now but is that good? I really don't know the ratings look POOR at best

Alpine, same crap class as the Artic

Your specs would easily run on 380-430w psu

I don't reccomend buying used power supplies, but a 1 year old EA500D is worlds better than what you have

There are lower cost units on that page that would work fine for your specs, but they all say preorder

But on another... cheerful... note, thank you guys, It really does kill me to spend that much but I guess it's worth it, the 450w was like £10 cheaper but I'd rather have the future proofing of 550w, even though hardware is becoming less and less power consuming
