How to set up a render farm/ Grid computing network for noobs

Hi, Basically I have about 80 Compaq Evo n610 sitting around after all the teaching staff got an upgrade and I want to build a render farm out of them, or some sort of system that I can have all the power of the laptops available to one desktop; each laptop had 520mb of RAM and a 1.8ghz single core CPU.

a long detailed explanation would be nice but I would be happy with at least an idea of what to Google since doing it myself lead me to forums that didn't explain it simply enough or just didn't tell me what I needed to do.
