Approximate Purchase Date: Now

Budget Range: $400 MAX After Rebates.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: InDesign, Photoshop, word processing, internet

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS (also have a case, but would like to replace that, too if it's in the budget)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, microcenter

Country: US

Parts Preferences: Built several based on Phenom II X4 9XX and have been pleased, but would go intel if it's the better choice here

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Putting together a basic build for my dad. No gaming at all. Light graphic design and photo editing, but mostly word processing and internet. I have a Sapphire Radeon HD5450 that came free with another build and didn't get used. Don't HAVE to use it in this build either.

Thanks for any advice!

for a work shop i would go with Phenom

not saying that an i3 can't do a workshop computer but i think it wouldn't do as good as Phenom at the price
