Low Volume in Headphones

Last response: in Components

Hi,

I have a Creative sound blaster 5.1 VX sound card in my system. Creative SB 5.1 speaker system runs very smoothly in it. However, i recently bought an Audio Technica ATH M20 headphone, but the volume is extremely low in the headphone. I have maxed out all possible volumes everywhere. Onboard sound is disabled. While listening to music on VLC Media player, if i max out the volume, the sound starts crackling.
Is this a problem with the headphone having a low volume output, or something wrong with the sound card? Speakers have good volume though. Need serious help to boost volume on my headphones!!
Here is my pc configuration -

Windows XP SP3
4Gb RAM
580GB Storage
AMD HD 6450 Graphics
Corsair VX550 PSU
AOC 18.5 monitor
Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX sound card

Any inputs?

The specs clearly say that this card has "Line-Out (front / rear / center / subwoofer)
Line-In / Mic-In" and needs amplified speakers or headphones in you case.

So how do i amplify my headphones? Plug an external amplifier in between ?
