More about lightining
  1. I believe the Stock GTX 580 requires 42 AMPS on the 12V rails. So the MSI GTX 580 lightning should be very similar.

    Whats your PSU?
  2. One more thing....

    http://hardocp.com/article/2011/06/28/msi_n580gtx_lightning_xe_3gb_sli_video_card_review/10

According to this - the GTX 580 (in SLI) you listed actually uses a bit less power than the stock GTX 580.

I also cannot find the AMP requirements for this card - however if it uses slightly less than the STock GTX 580 - then 42 AMPS on the 12V rails is required.
  3. What about multiple 12V rails ??? Those psu's have 30A on each rail . For example enermax 1000W has 30A on each rail but it has 83 Amps total. it has 4 rails and 1 pcie cable is hardwired to rail on 4 and on the other graphic card u can choose. So maybe that is total 42AMP for the PSU with 1 rail which feeds HDD's and otehr components (like CPU and stuff) besides the graphics.

With out calling the manufacturer you might not ever know for sure. How ever nVidia wed site on a reference 580 under load is 21amps. On another web site the reference 580 is 27amps on load.

I don't know what game is was listed on because it was in German. Then again on two other websites I found 21amps and 23amps. All of these under load and the 23 amp one was from an OC'd 580.

So I will post these websites so you can look as well. One way you can compair is the core clock and the shader and mem clocks with the reference cards or the OC'd cards to get a general idea of how many amps on the 12v rail Good luck
