cr writer gone dead!!!

i have a compaq presario 5223 with an internal cd writer. while making a cd it froze at 99% complete so i hit ctrl-alt-del to shut down program. i then rebooted and since then i have no power to the writer and it doesnt even show up under my computer; its like the drive disappeared. any ideas, i checked the power connector and ide ribbon and both are fine. Help!!!!
