If you want a single GPU, that means you need a 7970 or a GTX 680 (once it's released).

umm..no! A single 6950 or 560 will be fine.even at high-ultra settings.

i was think that a 7970 was a bit overkill, i was liking the look of the new 7000 series because it has low power consumption and i only have a 600w psu, will the new kepler cards also have low power consumption?

this

as long as you don't turn AA on

my gtx460 runs bf3 on ultra with AA turned off at 1680x1050 at 45-65 fps

well the only AA off is deferred, post is set to high, but agreed, defered is taxing,as is ambient occlusion.

No. A 6950 or 560ti will give you awful minimum framerates in games like Crysis 2 and BF3 maxed out at 1080p with AA. Average framerates might be playable, but minimum framerates will be bad.

If you want to play maxed out BF3 with AA at 1080p, 60fps average, you need a 7970 or higher:

i dont really want to shell out for max graphics high settings with low aa will do me fine, and what about cross fire and sli i could probably get a pair of lower cards cheaper and still have the performance.

Even a 7970 drops below 60fps @ times but a 560ti or 6950 will have a bit of a rough time on Ultra playing BF3 smooth.

You are probably after 7870 for $350 it's a great deal and a great card.
