Hello,
i recently purchased a fx4170 and gtx 570 thinking i was gonna see massive proformance, but i get strange Fps in Bf3, Guild wars 2 and Diablo 3, ill get 80-100 fps in all the games but then when i see like mobs and stuff i get as low as 13 fps i dont understand.

PC Spec's-
Antec 650Watt 38A 12
Gtx 570 Evga 1.2gb GDDR5
FX-4170 black edition (4.2ghz quad core)
8gb ram
MOBO-M5A97

Forgot to mention i was playing on 1366-768 resolution and getting 80-100 on max and still getting those drops, i just tried 1920-1080 on my other monitor and i can barly reach 60 fps... i should be able to max out most games shouldn't i?

I would run windows resource monitor and a program like MSI afterburner to monitor GPU usage. Then play the game until one of those frame-drops and promptly bail out of the game and look at what components are maxing out. (CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM)

off hand I'd say its a cpu shortage. Those games all will use 4 full cores and you only have two plus two more "half cores"

Get an aftermarket cooler and overclock the Fx

its definitely the CPU. Either try overclocking or try a Phenom II. Alternatively u can get an intel mobo and CPU, but that will cost a penny.

It's the CPU, that's when you see your 570 getting bottlenecked. Especially in MMO's where a strong CPU+GPU matters, more characters on screen=more work for the CPU. You have a strong GPU, but you don't have a strong CPU.

I have had the same problem but with a more mid level machine.
FX4100 3.6ghz, XFX 6870 and Asus M5A78L.
Whenever I played BF3 the game would stutter and FPS would go up and down like crazy. I found the problem was the 12.6 driver. I found a 12.1 cap 3 whql driver and then everything was smooth with decent fps(60+). Since then I updated to the 12.7beta without perf loss.

Open BF3 and bring the console down and enter 'render.perfoverlayvisible 1' if you have a lot of spikes, with either a yellow or green higher then the other you have a bottleneck. yellow higher than green its the CPU and versa.

FYI I currently have an issue where as when I OC my CPU I get a bottleneck but only on BF3 and CS:GO. Guild wars 2 on medium I am getting constant 60-100fps. Weird. I keep you posted if i fix this as it may relate to you.

^ I found my 6870 to be just slightly short for BF 3 tbh. Without anti aliasing and shadows it works alright on otherwise ultra settings. Anti aliasing thought challenges it.

I'll agree with that. Very playable but just short.

Ysane has the GTX570 which is a very good card espesh for BF3 so its got to be the CPU bottlenecking the GPU, but with the CPU clocked at 4.2.

Ysane - Is the FX clock at 4.2 stock?OC'd? or turbo cored?

4170 is clocked to 4.2ghz.

Yes its stock 4.2ghz, Every game is very much playable its just i thought this build would be max everything without horrible drops like that. its more so for Guild wars and diablo 3 cause bf3 is 80-100 lowest 30-40 but in diablo 3 and gw2 i get as low as 13 so if i was to Overclock this cpu to its max do you think it should be alot better until i can afford a better cpu

Because those games are MMO.

overclocking will not get rid of the problem just band aid it. i use up to 70% cpu usage with 2 6950s and about 55% usage with 1 card. thats with a faster cpu with 8 threads not 4.

Yep, definitely a CPU bottleneck.

True that. Oveorclocking adds maybe 15-20% performance increase if you max your CPU with a decent cooler. Otherwise architecture is what matters. However you should still try it :)  Solved my problems in single threaded games right away.

agreed.

That is the architecture. In theory the 2 cores and 4 threads is good but AMD did not do it right and there is alot of fuss on forums.

BF3 I get 60-80 and GW2 60-80. In GW2 with loads of players in an event it could go just below 60 but no lag issues.

BD architecture is not the best and PD uses the same but AMD have tweaked around with PD so you could see performance increase but i wouldn't hold your breath. Everyone's computer is different though.
My advice. If games are playable and you cant afford a new IB cpu and mobo stick with what you have and save up till next year for new CPU. That new intel one H something and AMD's steamroller.

^Haswell and Steamroller :D  Also for the time being, if its that bad and u decide to get intel board/cpu, you could just get a good new Pentium. They are perfectly fine for gaming and are nothing like old Pentium

All its about GPU fan speed if u playing games go to MSI Afterburner and speed up to 60-65-70 u choise and everything will be fine. In auto mode the fans stack at 33 , so u getting random drop fps. I hope that I helped you.
