You're going to need some A/C before you can upgrade. With the temperatures that you're getting I would not even recommend running your system at those.

I would wait for a conroe if I were you. Your RAM will work fine for it and it will run much cooler than any P4 you'll ever find.

No matter what CPU you get make sure you don't stay with the stock heatsink! Get a good heatsink for it, or as others have suggested, look into liquid cooling.
P.S. I am not a "pro", but I haven't blown anything up yet. Maybe that's what I'm missing... :D

I think he wants to just upgrade the processor. His 945 motherboard doesn't support Conroe anyways.

My recommendation is to look for a C1 stepping 930D. The C1 stepping has EIST so it'll downclock to 2.4GHz depending on workload. The C1 stepping also uses a more refined 65nm process so it should run cooler and use less power than the older B1 stepping. Both should help with the temperature.

Here's the official Product Change Notification for C1 stepping from Intel:

http://developer.intel.com/design/pcn/Processors/D0106083.pdf

What you are looking for in boxed processors is an S-Spec beginning with SL95, the SL94 was the older B1 stepping.

I dont think it'll help him much going from 90nm to 65nm unless he gets a single core chip. He could look for a 631 which is exactly what he's got but 65nm right?

Well I know some boards take 8xx and not 9xx, thats why I mentionned it.

I suggest upgrading to a nice Northwood 2.8

Don't know what your problem is, but could you find the rock you came out from under and go back under it? This is a computer forum, not a political one. The guy's asking nicely for help, so try being helpful like the rest of the people here, and keep your politics and dirt shoveling to yourself.
