I've heard about good things about Rosewill's Green and Hive brands, the Capstone one features the highest efficiency, but is also only 450W.
The Green and the unbranded one with the blue LED are both about 1 inch shorter (in the dimensions) than the Capstone and Hive one, my case is going to be a Bitfenix prodigy, how is the fit?
In your opinion, how useful are modular cables?

My rig is going to be 3570k + 7870, both overclocked and overvolted.

Finally, how's Rosewill's street rep/support? I heard they were a really bad generic brand a while back but they seem to have improved with some of their latest Cases/PSUs/Keyboards.

More about differences
  1. Out of these I would go with the Hive 550. Seems to be the best of the lot.
  2. Neither. Get a Corsair TX 650 v2. Solid and cheap. Its basically the default PSU you should consider when comparing others.

The TX650 V2 is $90 ($80 after MIR, if you want to count that) and it's more than he needs anyway.
  4. How is OCZ with mail-in rebates? I thought that a quality 500W PSU (ie. CX500) would be fine for a 3570k + 7870, is this correct?

I don't know that, honestly, but you're right that a good quality 500W unit is all you really need (although I don't love the Builder series PSU's from Corsair).

Unless you have some kind of fear of running at about 60-65% of it's capacity when gaming, the Capstone would be fine, no bunnies or kittens dying

I see, why do you feel that way about their builder series?

They're not bad, by any means, just slightly lower quality than the Enthusiast series (read, more failures, at least from what I've seen).

the capstone 450m and hive 550m are almost the same. the capstone rates at 37 amps and the hive 550 at 38amps.

if you are wondering what the rosewill hive is, it is exactally just a refreshed with newer parts version of the OCZ ZS series PSU's in modular form(as the ocz unit has a bit of age on it). same oem, same specs. The capstone is a superflower made psu which is rapidly becoming one of the high end psu makers.

Thanks for the very informative post, so between those 4 PSU's and something like the CX500, what would you recommend?

IMO the capstone, unless you are going to go through with the MIR on the corsair CX. regardless, the capstone is the better of the bunch
  13. What about a comparasion between the Capstone and CX600 in terms of quality? Since I'm going for a Mini-ITX build I won't CF/SLI, so I'm worried only about quality and fan noise.
  14. Doesn't matter get the the Capstone it's better quality here http://www.anandtech.com/show/5698/rosewill-capstone-450w-and-650w-80plus-gold <--- review of that psu

I'll post back with Overclocking and Build pics.
