Hello !!! I have a gateway desktop and I recently bought a hd 7970 graphics card, I was wondering if the current cpu of the computer would slowdown the graphics "bottleneck" its a I3 530 2.93GHz 4CPUs ~2.9GHz on a DX4831 board, this brings me to my next question would I be able to just purchase an i5 or even a i7 cpu and just replace the old i3 ? with this motherboard?. also my last question its how do you OC a cpu ? whats the best software ? , I ask this because while I was looking up i3 530 some people were sayin that it would be better to just OC.

thanks in advance !!

It should be fine.

Regarding your CPU upgrade question... you have a socket 1156 motherboard because all 1st generation Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs are socket 1156. There are enthusiast level socket 1366 Core i7 CPUs though.

All 2nd gen Sandy Bridge and 3rd gen Ivy Bridge CPUs are socket 1155. And, no you cannot install a socket 1155 CPU into a socket 1156 motherboard. Your only option is to install a faster 1st gen Core i3/i5/i7 CPU. You must check with Gateway to find out what is the fastest CPU you can install on your particular motherboard.
