Hey Guys,

I have a quick question regarding a deal recently. One of my friends is looking to sell me a 4870 for $30 if I include my old card, a HD 6450, in with the deal.

The 4870 is 3 years old without any warranty. The HD 6450 is about 3-4 months old. Do you think this is a good deal?

*Forgot to mention its a Sapphire 4870 512mb

Thanks

The 4870 is a considerably stronger card if you want it for gaming. @$30, it seems like a good deal to me.

If you are not gaming, then it is not such a good deal since any discrete graphics card is suitable.

I would not worry too much about age since most electronics that fail will do so on the first few months.

I'm not worried about the PSU.. I have a 460W one and it fits in my case (he let me try it out). I'm actually using the 4870 in my case right now.. just wondering if I should give him my 6450 AND 30 bucks for the 4870

Yeah dude at 30 bucks its a steal. I mean if you game you REEEAAALLLLYYYY need to get better than a HD6450 ANYWAY. So may as well.

Bump.. just need some more advice if its worth it not or. There's a 6770 by Gigabye for 80 bucks after mail in rebate brand new off newegg.. I don't know if I should go for that or do the trade for $30 and a 6450 for a 4780.

Guess everyone thinks its a good deal? Thanks then guys.. I def noticed a performance from 6450 to 4870 haha. I oc'd the 4870 to 810/1000 and runs smoothly in-game. Damn... didn't know 30 bucks could make such a difference

Thanks guys for your help.

Btw, is the 4870 really that much different than the 6770? I've researched it and it seems the 6770 is basically equal to 4870 except less power consumption and dirx11 support.

Hmm thanks. These cards go for about $40-50 used on ebay.. so I guess its a pretty good deal. Do you know if it can run Mass effect 3 or Skyrim on respectable settings? Its the sapphire 512mb one.

Rest of specs:

i5-2300
6GB ddr3
1tb 7200 hard drive
460W PSU

Damn.. thats really sweet. I was primarily a console gamer.. but didn't realize for 30 bucks I can run games that look prettier than a $200 PS3.

Do you think my PSU can handle a 6870 down the road? or if I decide to upgrade in a few months, would I have to replace my PSU also?
