I have a SB600 that when in bounce light in iTTL mode, tends to
underexposure for 1 or 1.5 EV. I have read that they had the same problem
during the test of the D2X in
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond2x/page22.asp
My problem is exactly the same, it is permanent and it is not caused by the
white background as the tester supposes. I am afraid that may be a problem
with SB600 or with iTTL in general.
Have you any experiences about. Is it the same with SB800 or other SB600? Or
it is my SB600 defective?

For bouncing is best use to use A mode.
or just iTTL [not iTTL matrix]
or just compensate it

I've had no problems (SB800), but I do know that the ceiling height and the
color of the room will make a difference. Since the SB800 is brighter it
may not be a fair comparison. As the other poster says, you might want to
experiment with different modes. Also, the 800 has a diffuser which I use a
lot.

SB600 have not A mode (Only SB800 have A and AA mode). Anyway, if I wanted
an A mode, I will use my old general use flash.
I don't know what is iTTL matrix and I don't remember to be mentioned in the
manual.
As for compensation, yes, is that I do, but I don't like this way. And it is
not constant.

SB800 is less than 1 EV brighter. If SB600 was not able to fill right the
image, at least it must give his full strength. This is not happens, as the
indications in the flash shows that the flash was ok and the flash stays
charged.
SB 800 have a similar diffuser (the internal flip on, not the external) and
I use it.
I am afraid, that this problem may have to do with the "ability" of SB600 ôï
read and take in the count the focus distance from the lens. I have a 50mm
1,8 not D, that gives not feedback for the distance. As I test it, with this
lens the problem is not there, or is not visible
Normally the ability to take in the count the focus distance, must be
automatically disabled when the flash is in bounce mode or in remote mode.
I have to do some more tests.
