I'm using windows 7. My Biostar TA970XE comes with Realtek ALC 982 onboard sound. The thing is without the Realtek driver the computer doesn't recognize headphones plugged into the front jack. With the Realtek driver the computer sees the headphone but plays static in the background.

I tried several different versions of the driver but the problem doesn't go away. The cords on my headphones are really short and doesn't really work when I plug the thing into the rear jack.

Help please.

The background noise is usually eliminated by plugging headphones into the rear headphone jack as that one is further away from the source of the noise. You can buy an extension lead for your headphones if it's not long enough to reach the rear jack comfortably. All good PC stores or hi-fi stores should have an extension lead with a 3.5mm female at one end & a 3.5mm male at the other end. Or you can order one online like this one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Stereo-Extension-Lead-Headphones/dp/B000TLSQR4
