I have cards. 470 + 460 + 285. What do?

Hey all,

Currently I'm running a 470 + 285 (2GB/OC for physx) and a friend is gifting me a 460 he no longer needs.

Can I run the 470 + 460 in SLI and keep the 285 for physx? Should I?

Or should I remove the 285 and use the 460 for physx?

I don't really use physx games (Batman?), but free cards are welcome.

Any suggestions?

Power is 850 bronze certified
i5 750 2 GHZ (not overclocked)

Heat and power hasn't been an issue. It's a HAF900 series case with massive air-flow.

Pretty sure you cannot SLI a 470 with a 460. If it were me, I'd sell all 3 and pick up something new :)

Or, sell the 460 and 285 and SLI the 470s. Just my thoughts.

I've never heard of anyone doing SLI with then a 3rd card for PhysX, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done.

I n order to do SLI the cards have to be the same , so you need two 470's or two 460's you can't mix the 460 and 470 in SLI. Physx takes such a little amopunt of video performance from a card that you can do it with almost any card down to a cerian model and you won't gain anything fro swaping the 280 out for the 460.
Since your friend is giving you this card it would be rude to turn around and sell it so the thing to do is keep it for physx and sell your 285. There is also the option to connect the two in SLI and see if by some luck they do work together , nothing would be damaged and it will either work or not work and since you are getting it for free you have nothing to lose by trying it.

It can be done and I have done it myself.

Sell them all and get one of the new 600 cards coming out shortly, or (as you got one for free) give one to a friend.

SLI requires all the same cards, and to run 3 cards you need the mobo to support it as well (which is more rare than a board that does normal SLI). With mixed cards you can do the odd man out as physx like you are currently doing, but that is about all you can do with mixed cards.

1st I've heard of it - learn something new all the time! :bounce:

I see nothing rude about selling a card given to you, but that's just me.

Rudeness isn't an issue. We're both pretty rude to each other, he'd probably just laugh about it.

I'm going to try the SLI + Physx for fun and if it doesn't work look into selling them.

I also have a backup computer and I wouldn't cry if it had the 285 in it...

Thanks everybody!
