Gaming Rig Advice

Hi, Firstly I'm from singapore. The main reason I'm here is to ask you guys what do you think of this build? Anything I should change? Its mostly for gaming,simulation and photo/video editing.(hence the powerful cpu). I also plan to overclock it(still new!) I haven't made up my mind on the case cooler(preferably with Red LED). Please tell me if I'm lacking any important parts. And do you guys think the PSU is overkill? Cause the price difference between the 850w and the 720w(I think) isn't that much. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

If you are not going to have multiple GPUs you really don't need more than 600W power supply as even a good 600W can still handle 2 GPU setup, so I'd downgrade to 750W or whatever they have that is one below 850W. But make sure that the power supply is at least 80 plus certified, and single lane 12v is always preferred over double lane.

Thanks, any power supply you would recommend then? It's easier and cheaper to get a cooler master one here. And sorry for this noob question but how do you tell a single lane 12v from a double lane?

Also I'd probably change the 7950 for a gtx670.

Yeah, most games are better on the GTX 670, but that's not to say that the 7950 is a bad card.

When a power supply has 2 12v rails, the spec will have 2 +12v with the same amount of amps, (i.e. +12v1@30A, +12v2@30A)

For a single 12v rail, it'll only have one +12v (i.e. +12v@60A)

You don't add the two rails together in a multirail PSU.

Another thing is, I heard that the ivy bridge was bad to overclock. Any truth in that? Or I would be better off with a 2600k or 2700k

It is not bad, but it does run a bit hotter.

Early indication is that IB runs hotter when overclocked than SB, but as long as you have a good CPU cooler setup, you should be able to do decent overclock. You might save a few bucks going with SB, IB is still better in many ways than SB overall.

Alright thanks. Then I guess I'll go with IB. Since I'm getting a decent cooler. Now I don't know if I should get an XFX R7950 or a Pailt GTX 670 or a MSI GTX 670. Or any cards you guys would recommend below $600 SGD

All gtx 670s so far are solid cards, depends on which card from those brands you're referring to though - can you provide links?

Depends on the specific card like I said, but from purely brand I'd have to say the Asus IMO
