Hmm... Toshiba isn't the only ones caught off guard. It seems more
studios are going to bail on HD-DVD in light of this. Perhaps, it's a
hidden blessing that 360 may not ship with HD-DVD. I sure as hell don't
want a format that will die within this (or next) generation.

If anything it would have helped it immensely because $1000 for a
standalone player as opposed to $400 for a game system that plays the
disk doesn't add up. Its funny how they are always comparing which
studios support which but Disney may be the studio that turns the
tables.

Beats the hell out of me. It just amazes me how many people own Disney
movies on VHS and DVD though. They are the most rabid movie fans on Earth.

Yeah, it's funny. They do a great deal of American releases under the
Disney guise, where in actuality those movies have nothing to do with
Disney (other then they're in cartoon form). Miyazaki films for example
(Spirited Away).

The Ghibli/Disney agreement is sort of special though... Beuna Vista
Japan contracted with Studio Ghibli (Miyazaki's studio) for the DVD rights
but in return, Studio Ghibli said they must release the films worldwide
and were forbidden from touching a SINGLE frame of animation (they learned
their lesson when 'Warriors Of The Wind' was released...)
Disney missed the boat though... Had they embraced Ghibli's works instead
of handling them with a proverbial 10ft pole, Disney could have realized a
whole new market, while Totoro walked around greeting folks at Disneyworld.
Maybe Disney could work together with Studio Ghibli on an animated
picture. Afterall, Kingdom Hearts turned out pretty good.

Hmmm... I did not know that. Actually, I just recently got into his
pictures. Would you believe I didn't see Spirited Away until only a few
months ago. I'm looking forward to Howl's being released on DVD.
Have you ever seen Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no haka)? I just
started watching it. Looks really good. On a similar note, I tried that
IronMan (Tetsuo). Did you tell me about that one? I really didn't like
it at all. Much too bizarre. My next flick to watch(sitting on the
shelve) is Casshern.

I think Howl's will be on DVD here in time for Christmas.

Fireflies is good...but very very hard to watch. Keep the tissues handy.
Supposedly, 'My Neighbor Totoro' and 'Grave Of The Fireflies' premiered in
Japan together as a double feature - AND in that order. I can't imagine
what it was like in the theater... "See the happy little kids
playing...AND THEN WATCH THEM DIE." Despite the protagonists being kids
in Fireflies, it's not a kiddie movie.
How terribly evil.
If horribly depressing movies are your thing, try the ultimate downer
double header: Grave Of The Fireflies followed up by Windaria, or 'Once
Upon A Time' as it was relabeled in the US.
Do not watch these back to back alone.
Lock up the knives/razor blades before viewing.
Keep plenty of tissues on hand.
