Hello.

I am hoping of building a PC but I don't have a massive amount of money to spend. In fact I have little money to spend. The plan is to get a Pentium G840/50 and a Powercolor HD6870 and upgrade the CPU when ivy bridge comes out (or maybe just buy a then cheaper quad core i5). I want to know if the pentium will bottleneck the hd6870. I play to play bf3, dirt 3(free coupon with card) and older dx9 RTS games. My monitor res is 1024x1280.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Solution
battlefield 3 requires vary little for cpu. but the g840/g850 are plenty fast. they are just a slightly slower i3 2100 without hyper threading. in other words they are quite fast.

The G840 will be fine for now but I don't think waiting for Ivy Bridge is REALLY worth it unless getting a 77W CPU instead of a 95W 2500k (with a z68 board) makes some kind of difference to you.

I wouldn't be waiting; I would just use the socket to get an upgrade if you know what I mean.

So no bottleneck?
