Hello all. I apologize if this is in the incorrect forum as this is my very first post. I frequent this site whenever I am researching comparisons between different machines/systems and I enjoy reading the wonderful member feedback.

That being said, I am posting to ask for a comparison between two machines in order to appease my pestering father. :na: My parents' computer crashed recently and they have been without a computer since (save my father's work laptop). I immediately went searching for a great replacement that will fulfill all of their needs.

They do not use any large programs nor game, so processor/CPU and graphics card are mostly a non-issue; however, I would like for them to have a decent computer that will be stable enough to get them through what they need (general usage).

I found this desktop on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113188) and read through the reviews and thought it a good match for their needs.

He found this laptop on HSN :sarcastic: (http://www.hsn.com/electronics/acer-17-3-lcd-quad-core-4gb-ram-750gb-hdd-laptop-with-skinit-personalization-coupon-black_pf-184618_xp.aspx) and began asking me a lot of questions about whether it would be a good purchase.

In order to appease him, I would kindly ask the opinion of this forum on which machine would be the better purchase. Again, I apologize if I posted in the incorrect forum (and for the length of this message :D ).

Thank you,
Michael

Solution
The desktop has a slightly better spec and would mean you could get a 1080P monitor and easily be able to upgrade it easily etc. If you would prefer portability though, that laptop looks fine.
