    Ivy Bridge offers no advantage to gamers over Sandy Bridge. So the same logic applies that has already held true, overclocked the Phenom II can come close enough to match the i3 in terms of practical performance, not overclocked, the i3 will have the advantage.

    My preference is would be the Phenom II if an i5 is not in the budget for certain advantages that go beyond gaming (multi-threaded applications)
