Use DVI/HDMI from the mobo or from the GPU?

I finally got my rig assembled tonight by a really knowledgeable friend of a friend. However, I forgot to ask him 1 question... I know I'm going to catch sh*t for my ignorance with this question but I can't figure it out...

I plan on using DVI for my regular monitor, & HDMI for my TV a few feet away.

However, both my Mobo (AsRock gen3) & my GPU (GTX 570) have ports coming out the back for both DVI & HDMI.

Which do I use?

You want to be connected to the GPU. UNLESS your motherboard has switchable graphics. Most dont a few do. The motherboard graphics are usually disabled when you plug in a discrete gpu anyway
