My friend told me that if you've registered windows 7 and reinstall the home premium edition, you're old product key is no longer valid. Is this true? if so, how do you get a new key? (I'm about to reinstall)

Don't believe everything your friends tell you. You should be fine. The very worst that would happen is that you might have to call Microsoft to reactivate your installation, but with a first reinstall this is unlikely.

Reinstalling on same box will not require a new key.

ms's rule: one key can only be used on one computer.
the genuine key supports many and many re-installation as you want(but unexpected thing always happens).
actually, the key is bound with the motherboard. if motherboard is changed, the old key will not work any longer. so don't change the motherboard unless you have to.
a little use to contact ms under such condition.
backup is a very important method to avoid such accident. keep good habit to backup your computer. :-)
in case, you lose the original key, or have to change the motherboard, or no backup, you must feel unfair to buy a new key at that cost from ms online store.
here suggest to buy a key from a msdn partner. their price is much cheaper, under the acceptance. you can search REDACTED - SSon google. good luck!

That's funny. According to another post you have just made you bought a key from another site! Inn fact, this is the third site you have recommended in the past few minutes.

Avoiding anything recommended by this guy. He is a spammer and the sites he mentioned are scams.
