Will a Pentium 4 - 3.06 GHz cpu work in Z77 extreme 4 mobo?

It depends on which slot it is using. The Z77 is a 1155 slot motherboard.

I highly doubt that the Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz chip is 1155. On the other hand I almost guarantee it is a 775 in which case it won't work.

At best the Pentium 4 is a LGA775 processor. I think yours is a socket 478. Either way, it won't work in a LGA1155 motherboard. The oldest you can go with an LGA1155 motherboard is the Sandy Bridge Dual core Pentium/i3/i5/i7.
