I've bought a new motherboard for an SLI upgrade, a P5n32-SLI. The thing is only the P5n32-E SLI takes core 2 duo. So basically, I'm stuck with a good board but it only takes up to Dual Cores. My second board is a P5LD2 with a e6600 (2.4 Ghz O/C 3.0Ghz) with a 9800GT 512mb and an other one sitting in it's box. I looked for the best cpu's for each board, and I was wondering which one would be better. There's the Extreme ED-965 for the SLI board, and a Core 2 Extreme X6800 for my older board.. Thanks for your help !

When the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo were released I started looking at getting me one. I found a good benchmarks on this site comparing the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz and was able to match it up with the Intel Pentium® Extreme Edition 965 dual core at 3.73GHz. Out of the 20 benchmarks that they had at that time the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 won 16 of them and was only outperformed on 4 of them. So really there is no reason to use the Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 over anything in the Intel Core 2 Duo line up.

Thanks for the quick reply ! Well then, I'll try to find a X6800, but I have an other question : I think my 9800 gt is comming outdated (and the fact that its a 512mb doesn't help), would a HD 7770 be a good upgrade ?

*Edit : I started to look at the specs vs my E6600, my clock is stable around 3.2 with good cooling, so I was wondering if going for a X6800 @2.93 ghz would be a good upgrade since both of them has 4 mb cache, and my clocks are higher then the X6800's stock clocks. Thanks !
