Why are you building on the 775 platform? There is no reason not to move to something a little more modern.

thanks i come across the 775 motherboards alot and have steered that way, any advice on something newer for me to start looking into, i have noticed that the q6600 chip is better for oc then the next 2 faster chips, also was trying to stay away from intels i range as thaat opens upp a whole new can of effort

Well, the Q6600 is 5 years old already. If you are buying new, it makes no sense at all to buy one. Even used would have to be very cheap to make sense.

Certainly. If you can afford one, a i5-2500k would be the best cost x benefit. An ASUS P8Z68-Pro plus an i5-2500k will cost you about 400 USD. You may also consider AMD if the money is short. A Phenom II X4 980 BE is a good processor for about 130 USD.
