Cpu Multiplier Fluctuation

theres a problem with intel speedstep.. wen i install the os new without any apps the multiplier is in the range of 6-6.5..

after loading all apps the multiplier is alwaays near 7.5-8 mark.. i check using realtemp... and my cpu is q8400...

d anyone know how to bring the multiplier back to normal?

How busy is the system and what tasks are running? At least one task requires enough processing power to trigger the multiplier change. On my Q6600, the multiplier triggers between 6 and 9, but that's normal as CPU utilization keeps on changing.

There's probably a lot more background work going on. sounds normal to me. My Q6600 would rarely drop it's multiplier when idling.

My 965 changes from a x4 to a x17 automatically since I have not set manual control of it. It only works as hard as it has to.
