So I will be trying to make a new computer for gaming(some of it online) and internet browsing, I'm trying to go for around $600 with still being decent.

I will be reusing the following parts:
HD - WDC WD5000AAKS-00UU3A0 and WDC WD6400AAKS-75A7B0
DVD Player - HL-DS-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N
PCU(if its enough at the end) - Corsair GS600 (600w)
1680x1050 monitor

the parts that im looking at buying:
CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition - $140
GPU-XFX HD-695X-CDFC - $230
mobo-ASUS M5A97 - $95
RAM- G.Skill Ripjaws 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB Memory - DIMM 240-pin - 1600 MHz ( PC3-12800 ) specifically- G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL - $47

I know I still need to pick a CPU Fan and Case. But please let me know if there is anything else I have missed or if something is not compatible or is not worth buying.

your talking about the AMD Athlon X2 7850? is it a lot better or something for that extra $20

also, could any of this just not work together? Everything should be able to physically fit together, but I dont want to get everything and find out something just does not operate well with another part.

The 7850 is a video card - it's smaller and more energy efficient vs. the 6950.

I personally wouldn't spend the money on an AMD rig right now - go with an i3-2120 and an H77 motherboard - you won't be disappointed.
