Bridging

Hi there,

The PC and IP phone in my home office are pretty far away (10M) from the main wireless router/modem.

I would rather not stretch cables, and looked at wireless bridges but they seem to have an ethernet jack only for one device and I need two at the moment (might be three one day, but not soon).

I use the PC for work and gaming.

Would appreciate advise and recommendation for components.

Hi Emerald,

That solves the problem for the PC but not the IP phone. that is on my desk.

Is there a product with multiple plugs, so that I can connect both phone and PC to one device and have that link wirelessly to the router?

okay instate of spending the money on the wireless adapter you could buy a ASUS RT-N12 and install the DD-WRT firmware which will allow you to use it as a bridge repeater.

a bridge repeater will connect to your main router wirelessly and retransmit the signal. also it will allow you to use the LAN ports to connect your IP phone and computer

Question, I have a spare D-Link DIR300 G Router 54MBs which I am not using.

Can I use this router as a bridge as well? if so what do i have to do to implement a bridge with it.

Yes, but depending which Revision you have it can be quite complicated.

Rev. A1 is complicated
Rev. B1 is really easy

which revision do you have?

I'm trying to install an ASUS RT-N12 in repeater mode, but when I go to plug in my AES (I use a WPA-personal) key..it says that I have the wrong key. I'm 99% certain I typed + cut and pasted it correctly.

Is this because I don't have the DDT-wrt firmware? I've downloaded the firmware but don't know what to do with it.

I have a macbook pro.

As I said use the DD-WRT firmware for stability reasons.

make sure the switch on the router is set to its original position.

downloading the Special image for initial flashing, you can flash the router using its GUI. Link to the file is in these installation instructions
